Director Business Control
The organization
Nearfield Instruments is a Dutch deep-tech scale-up headquartered in Rotterdam that has rapidly grown into an international player in the semiconductor industry. The company develops in-line, non-destructive nanometrology solutions for advanced 3D memory and logic manufacturers, addressing critical metrology and process control challenges.
The company was founded in 2016 as a spin-off from TNO (the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research). At the heart of Nearfield’s innovation is its proprietary platform QUADRA, which enables non-destructive, high-throughput, atomic force microscopy (AFM) with full 3D imaging capabilities, including full side-wall measurement. The company’s solutions are designed for seamless integration into high-volume manufacturing environments, offering robust automation, fast measurement cycles, and compatibility with fab standards, enabling the next generation of semiconductor manufacturing innovation in line with industry needs.
While firmly rooted in the Netherlands, with operations in Rotterdam and Eindhoven, Nearfield Instruments has built an international presence in several key semiconductor regions, including Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, the United States ,Singapore and Belgium. In a Dutch context, Nearfield Instruments is one of the relatively few deep-tech companies that has successfully grown from a research-driven origin into an international player active at the core of the global semiconductor industry.
In July 2024, Nearfield Instruments completed a €135 million Series C funding round, one of the largest deep-tech investment rounds in the Dutch semiconductor sector to date. The round was led by Walden Catalyst and Temasek, with participation from M&G Investments, Innovation Industries, Invest-NL and ING. This investment supports further industrialization, organizational scaling and commercial expansion.
